I was born in Santiago-Chile in 1968. I studied from early childhood at the artistic school “Escuela para niños con talento F-19” in Arica-Chile. I studied seven years art, drawing and painting, and three years music. In 1987, I came to live in Argentina. I continued with my studies at “Taller de Extensión Universitaria”. I developed many art exhibits in groups and individually not only locally but also internationally. I have participated and won many contests since I was nine years old. In 2001, I have been a jury for the CIF (Consejo Federal de Inversiones) in Catamarca-Argentina. For five years I was in charge and coordinator of the only private art gallery “Albacaución” in Catamarca. I organized every 21 days different art shows and exhibits of local and national artists. Also, I organized events integrating my country Chile with Argentina focusing visual arts and means of communication. In order to promote my art I studied business and administration - marketing, tourism and journalism in Argentina.
According to my work painting, my inspiration from the last few years has been based on the life of the Argentinean northeast and Chilean north with their flora and fauna. What attracts me the most is the hidden mysticism of the pre-Colombian era (before Christopher Columbus arrived to America in 1492). I am enchanted that the native Indians believed in many Gods. Rituals and power were given to these Gods and they were very important for the native Indians. These images of Gods represent metaphors of natural forces such as earth, sky, rain, fire, air, corn and others. They represent the main Gods of these high cultures. I love and admire the way the native Indians showed their skills with the architecture, sculptures, drawings, paintings, ceramic/clay work, textiles, jewelries and gold/silver works. For example, the pre-Colombian tombs Santa Mariana found in Catamarca-Argentina. I like to include in my paintings the ornamentation of these sepultures that are very unique with wonderful colors and geometric shapes of these Incan and Diaguita culture. On the other hand, I am fascinated with the fauna of the place. You can appreciate in my works some animals like llamas, vicuñas, alpacas, guanacos and representing the birds, the majestic “Condor” with its sharp looking that makes him be the master of the skies.
Interpretations and thoughts of the native Indians are according to the following: The power, the earth and its fecundating power (La Pachamama), the rain, the sun, and the cosmos. All of them catch my inspiration to work in my oil paintings. I translate my sensations, feelings, and admiration to all our ancestors who used to see the world in a simple way with a lot of respect to the nature. I try to learn from them. All of this I want to transmit in my works. Our ancestors are like our “Sages”. I use loose strokes with a lot of color fusion. I also, use a strong contrast of light and dark colors of the palette. Particularly, I prefer the terracotta colors with different shades. Sometimes I use the technique of surrealism but also I am strong with portraits. I try to catch the suffering in the forgotten faces of the northern native Indians. Their eyes magnetize the spectators giving a strong personality to the painting. |
